Francesca Woodman

Francesca Woodman (1958 - 1981) produced a collection of 800 photographs between 1972 and 1981, many of them self-portraits. The artist focuses on the female body, and the feminine subjectivity. Woodman uses objects such as mirrors, flowers or gloves and these are meticulously placed in ruined places and the female body appears, sometimes as a ghostly figure due to photography long exposures. Seems as if the barrier between this world and another has been broken.

Woodman hasn't been recognized as artist while alive, she committed suicide by the age of 22, in 1981 and her work has been introduced to the public in an exhibition, in 1986.

There is a documentary available directed by Scott Willis about Francesca and her family called The Woodmans, here is the link if you want to see the trailer.

If you happen to be in San Francisco, there's a current exhibition in the SFMOMA until the 20th February.

If you are in Portugal you can anxiously wait for them to be shown at Museu Berardo, which owns a few.

Katsuya Kamo

Katsuya Kamo (Japan) is a renowned hair and makeup artist, who is most known by his incredible head pieces. Kamo said in an interview that he wanted to be a fashion designer but didn’t know how to do that. A friend showed him hairdressing work and he gave it a shot instead. His dramatic approach of hair styling is a kind of sculptural work in which he uses the most varied materials as feathers, paper, wood, plastic and hair itself.

One of his most important collaborations is with Junya Watanabe and in the Spring of 2009 he created the whole headpieces to Chanel's collection from paper flowers.

It is an ambiguous set of images in a fantasy world that only our dear Tim Walker can create.

CO|TE

CO|TE is an italian brand and the name means shelter and protection. It has been created by Tomasi Anfonsi and Francesco Ferrari, both graduated from Istituto Marangoni. Their design focus on geometrical silhouettes and the tradition of italian quality. This spring/summer collection shows a mix and match possibility from the basic shirts with minimal cuts, the color choice and range of accessories. We find the feathered shirt colors to die for especially by the variety of colors (that you can see on their website) that always gives a twist on a basic outfit.
