Vanessa Beecroft

Vanessa Beecroft born in 1969, in Genoa, Italy is a contemporary artist mostly dedicated to performance.
The artist creates compositions using the live figure, usually models, that stay still and motionless. There is no interaction with the viewer, no expression no communication what is sometimes disturbing to the audience creating tense moment of observation.
These figures wear what we can call an uniform that is most of the time the naked body, the nudity becomes the clothing. All the models placed in groups create a rhythm and repetition are unified by wigs, by identical shoes or by colors. In her recent work Vanessa Beecroft started using professional models, and make up artists such as Pat McGrath and associating with designers as, for example, Miuccia Prada or Tom Ford who's clothing items and accessories appear in her work.

Homage to Claude Cahun

Claude Cahun (1894-1954), an artist not so often known and talked about, was a curious spirit of her time. Surrealist photographer and writer, she breaks social boundaries, challenging notions of beauty, logic, and gender. Cahun creates a multiplicity of characters through self-portrait, as a chameleon of the female identity.

“Sous ce masque un autre masque. Je n’en finirai pas de soulever tous ces visages.”
Claude Cahun
